POLICYDOKUMENT; LOXDALE, BRIGHTON
All students are very welcome to use our computers whilst studying with us.
However, there are certain rules that students must follow to comply with
UK law and best practice in schools and employment.
Access to the internet is provided primarily for work related information and research, but you may use it for personal use, if you follow the rules outlined below. Use of the facility is not private and may be monitored by the School.
The internet is an open means of communication. As a consequence there is a large security risk involved in using it. Viruses can be communicated over it, outsiders can break into the School’s systems and information sent over the internet can be intercepted. It is your responsibility to help reduce these risks.
In this document the term ‘technology use’ includes the internet, use of laptops, use of computers, use of social networking sites, use of smart phones, blogging and tweeting.
The rules below on technology usage must be followed at all times:
Downloading or looking at illegal, offensive or immoral material (e.g. pornographic or other unsuitable material) is strictly forbidden.
All downloaded text attachments, for example word documents that may contain word macros, must be virus scanned before opening.
You are not permitted to install or download or remove any external software unless previously authorised. Files and data should be virus scanned before they are accepted.
You must never disclose any information about students, the school, staff or hosts.
It must always be clear that any opinion you express is your own and you are not representing the views of Loxdale English Centre.
You should be aware of all relevant laws on copyright, plagiarism, slander, defamation of character, libel and public interest disclosure. They are strict in the UK and can lead to police investigation.
You should not use Loxdale English Centre’s facilities or network or services for personal financial gain, or for personal or private advertising.
Unacceptable use of internet and email services includes any action which could bring Loxdale English Centre into disrepute, interfere with the School’s business, its reputation or endanger the security of data, networks, equipment or software or cause harm to recipient’s students, hosts or staff.
Anyone found breaching these terms will be subject to formal disciplinary action and may be banned from using the School’s computers, and if found to be viewing illegal material, will be reported to the police and be expelled from school.
Please do let us know if there are any problems with the computers and when the paper or printer ink runs out.
Thank you for your understanding.
